Austin Highway Animal Hospital is a full-service veterinary medical facility, located on Austin Highway in San Antonio, Texas.  We offer progressive, compassionate medical care for your four-legged family member. We use only quality vaccines, medications, equipment, and diets. Our hospital has a well trained support staff that is an integral part of our team to serve you and your pet.

We believe in whole body health. We emphasize a mix of conventional and alternative medicine, as well as focus on the role that quality nutrition, supplements and neutraceuticals can play in promoting health. Whether its preventative healthcare or offering state-of-the-art medical care in the face of illness, our doctors want to keep you involved with and educated about the needs of your pet.

We are committed to promoting responsible pet ownership,  and health-related educational opportunities for our clients. Austin Highway Animal Hospital strives to offer excellence in veterinary care to San Antonio, Texas and surrounding areas.

Austin Highway Animal Hospital has served the Alamo Heights, Terrill Hills, Terrill Heights, Oakwell Farms, Northwood, and Fort Sam areas since the 1950’s, and we want to be your veterinary clinic of the future.

We are  located next door to the Sonic and across the street from the Super Wal-Mart on Austin Highway.

Our Doctors and Staff


Dr. Neelesh Narurkar

Dr. Narurkar was born in 1973, in England.  He moved to the United States in 1977.  He is originally of Indian heritage. He attended The University of Texas at Austin and graduated in 1995 with a Bachelors in Zoology.  He attended  Texas A&M University and graduated with his DVM in 1999.  His first position as a veterinarian was at a small animal equine practice in Olympia, Washington.  In 2002,  Dr. Narurkar purchased Canyon City Animal Hospital  in Canyon Lake, TX.  In 2011,  he relocated to San Antonio and became part owner of Austin Highway Animal Hospital.  Dr. Narurkar's medical interests include dentistry, geriatric medication and pain management.  His hobbies include cycling, running, travel, and Texas Longhorn Football.



Dr. Michelle Bammel

Dr. Michelle Bammel was born and raised in Texas. She grew up in Huntsville, Texas and did her undergraduate studies at Baylor University. Dr. Bammel graduated Cum Laude from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 2001.

Dr. Bammel married her husband, Clint, in 2007. They have two sons, two dogs, and one cat.

Dr. Bammel enjoys merging the best of Western medicine with the best of Eastern medicine to create an integrated approach to health and wellness. She completed the IVAS Acupuncture training in 2011 and is currently pursuing a certification in Chinese herbs. She believes that preventing disease through nutrition, exercise, and emotional balance is the key to a long, happy life for both humans and animals.

Dr. Bammel enjoys RV camping with the family, working in her yard, crafts, and being near any body of water (but preferably a tropical beach!).

Our Services

Austin Highway Animal Hospital provides surgery, wellness care, and medical care to our four-legged patients. We have state of the art dental radiology, standard radiology, and ultrasound.  We have doppler blood pressure machines and in house blood testing equipment.  We also offer nutritional counseling, acupuncture, Chinese herbs, and NAET (Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination Techniques).
